Chanel creative director Virginie Viard opted for a low-key rendition of haute couture for the French fashion house's fall-winter runway show on Tuesday, sending out a mix of long, full-skirted dresses and tweed ensembles with slightly relaxed fits. The label took to a horse arena on the outskirts of Paris, building a set that played with optical effects, with geometric patterns running at a slant while large silver globes hung from the ceiling. The show opened with a projection of Pharrell Williams playing a drum set, with grinding electronic music in the background.

“We followed the footsteps of Gabrielle Chanel along the River Tweed, to imagine tweeds in the colours of this landscape. Like that of a long pink coat mottled with blue and purple, or a burgundy suit with a delicate gold shimmer. This is what Gabrielle Chanel would do on her walks through the Scottish countryside: she would gather ferns and bouquets of flowers to inspire the local artisans for the tones she wanted”, Virginie Viard explains about her fall-winter 2022-2023 collection for Chanel. At the Grand Palais Éphémère, Chanel’s artistic director and designer displays a brand-new ready-to-wear collection that once again celebrates the Scottish carded wool and emblem of the fashion house: tweed. As for the rest of the collection, wellingtons, jackets in psychedelic colours, black velvet trousers, and tight skirts shine a light on the free creative spirit of the Swinging London during the 1960s in the UK.

The 44 piece collection saw two trends in full force—long work skirts and drop waists. Whereas before waists we’re going sky-high, the house now scales back from a rising waistline to dropping it several inches, which now gives a nod back to the 40’s (a look Coco herself would have likely donned) and origins of […]

In February this year Chanel presented the first instalment of a high jewellery collection crafted in honour of Bijoux de Diamants, a collection designed by Gabrielle Chanel in 1932. Later, in July, all 81 pieces were shown at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris. Some were even worn by the models who walked for the label's Fall/Winter 2022/23 Haute Couture show.
